Penta Security’s Cloudbric WAF+ v3.0 – Korea’s First SECaaS Platform Innovation
Today, enterprises adopt cloud computing to secure service agility, flexibility, and accelerated innovation in response to consumer expectations. As the network‑separation policy gradually eases from 2025, even financial and public institutions are actively pursuing cloud migration. Yet concurrently, the unique security characteristics of the cloud are often overlooked, producing serious blind spots. Because cloud computing operates on infrastructure owned by a third party, visibility and manageability of resources, data and their access points tend to be weak. Furthermore, in complex hybrid and multi‑cloud dynamic environments where resources scale and shrink by the second depending on workloads, one cannot simply apply traditional on‑premises security models that assume a fixed point. To resolve these cloud‑specific issues of visibility, manageability and variability, the Security‑as‑a‑Service (SECaaS) concept has been introduced.
Suitability of the SECaaS model and SECaaS Platform in increasingly complex cloud environments
The SECaaS security model, delivered as a service, offers inherent advantages like reduced upfront investment, automated response to latest threats, simplified operations and high scalability. It eliminates chronic problems of appliance‑based security such as cost burden, operational complexity and specialist hiring. As a cloud service itself, it can be applied freely anytime and anywhere, thereby liberating users from the cloud‑specific issues of visibility, manageability and variability. Given these advantages, the rise in cloud adoption globally has directly corresponded to increased SECaaS adoption.
In 2015, Penta Security launched the Cloudbric platform. Based on patents registered in five countries (including the U.S., Japan and Korea), the platform began as a web application firewall (WAF) service powered by an AI‑type logical‑analysis COCEP engine, under the brand Cloudbric WAF+. Following that, Penta Security released Cloudbric WMS, an AWS WAF operational SaaS; in 2021 launched Cloudbric Managed Rules, an AWS Marketplace rule group; also released Cloudbric Labs for threat intelligence sharing; the consumer‑VPN service Cloudbric VPN; and AI‑based video/photo personal‑data‑masking service Cloudbric Mask. Together, these offerings form a comprehensive SECaaS cloud‑security ecosystem: the SECaaS platform.
Stronger real‑time response: Cloudbric WAF+ v3.0 launches
The cloud‑security SaaS platform Cloudbric WAF+ provides comprehensive web‑security services including WAF, API security, malicious‑bot mitigation and DDoS defence. They are based on threat‑intelligence collected from 700 000+ sites worldwide. It specialises in web‑application security by blocking data‑exfiltration attacks such as SQL injection and XSS, and it supports SSL/TLS encrypted communication to protect sensitive data in transit. Even in complex distributed environments it automates real‑time threat detection and security monitoring, boosting centralised manageability and visibility; it also fully complies with regulations such as the Financial Security Institute guidelines and Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act.
The newly released v3.0 version significantly improves user accessibility and convenience by introducing an integrated dashboard that displays overall attack status and required security checks at a glance, and by fully redesigning the console interface and UI. It enhances bot‑security functions with features such as custom bot blocking and good‑bot management, and strengthens real‑time response by improving monitoring, adding multi‑account and advanced admin‑permission control, implementing 2‑factor authentication per admin, IP‑access control and audit‑log support.
Over 90 % of customers overseas, Cloudbric technology validated globally
Cloudbric has focused on overseas market expansion thanks to the borderless nature of SECaaS platform without hardware or geographic limitations, and now serves 1 100+ global enterprise customers across 171 countries. Unlike the Korean SECaaS market which remains in its early stage due to somewhat rigid regulations and unfamiliarity with the concept, the overseas market where cloud‑services are rapidly growing has seen Cloudbric partnering with major cloud vendors such as AWS. As a result, Cloudbric is listed in the Gartner Market Guide, selected as a U.S. National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) Champion, and has received both the Cybersecurity Excellence Award and the GLOBEE Cybersecurity Award—solidifying its position as a top global cybersecurity company.
